Ravens Trade for Jacoby Brissett as Rams Welcome Back Myles Garrett
Baltimore acquired veteran quarterback Jacoby Brissett to offset Lamar Jackson's likely season-ending thumb injury, while Los Angeles activated star pass rusher Myles Garrett.
The Baltimore Ravens traded for quarterback Jacoby Brissett from the Arizona Cardinals on Wednesday as they confront a sudden crisis under center. With Lamar Jackson expected to undergo surgery for a likely season-ending thumb injury, the Ravens trade for Jacoby Brissett highlights a wave of critical Week 9 roster shifts for 4-4 teams, including the Los Angeles Rams welcoming two-time Defensive Player of the Year Myles Garrett back to practice.
Baltimore's Depleted Quarterback Room
Head coach Jesse Minter faces a challenging path forward. Jackson's anticipated absence leaves a massive void for a 4-4 team that still has the AFC North within reach. Internal replacement options in Baltimore were severely limited before Wednesday's move. Backup Tyler Huntley is currently sidelined with turf toe, leaving undrafted rookie Joe Fagnano as the only other available quarterback.
Brissett Arrives After Arizona Demotion
The 33-year-old Brissett joins the Ravens looking for a fresh start. This season with the Cardinals, he recorded 10 touchdowns, seven interceptions, and a 48.9 QBR. His tenure in Arizona recently took a sharp downturn following a poor performance against the Dallas Cowboys. The Cardinals demoted Brissett to third-string, benching him in favor of Gardner Minshew and promoting third-round rookie Carson Beck to the primary backup role.
Rams Activate Myles Garrett Ahead of Washington Trip
While Baltimore addresses its offense, the Los Angeles Rams are reinforcing their defense. The team opened the 21-day practice window for Garrett on Monday, and the star pass rusher officially returned to the practice field on Wednesday.
Garrett has not played since undergoing knee surgery shortly after the season opener in Australia, a game in which he did not log a tackle. The Rams previously sent Jared Verse and three high draft picks to the Cleveland Browns to acquire the 2023 and 2025 Defensive Player of the Year.
Los Angeles, currently 4-4 and on a two-game winning streak for the first time this season, desperately needs his production. The Rams have tallied just 12 sacks as a team and recently lost Jaylen Watson for the year. Garrett's 125½ career sacks rank third among active NFL players.
Additional Week 9 Adjustments
Quarterback changes extend beyond Baltimore as teams prepare for Week 9. The Seattle Seahawks will take the field without Sam Darnold, while the Philadelphia Eagles are turning to Joe Milton at quarterback.
Elsewhere in the NFC West, Brandon Aiyuk filed for reinstatement with the San Francisco 49ers. The Rams will look to maintain their momentum when they visit Washington on Sunday.
