Editorial Standards

SB News is a sports newsroom with a live scoreboard attached. This page explains the standards behind both.

How stories are produced

Stories are published under the SB News Desk byline rather than invented reporter names. The desk works from official league and team announcements, injury reports, public statements and reporting by established outlets. When a story relies on specific reporting, the key sources are listed under "Sources and further reading" at the end of the article. Some stories are drafted with the help of automated tools.

News, analysis and explainers

  • News reports what happened and what is confirmed.
  • Analysis explains what a result or a move means; it is labeled by its framing and never presented as confirmed fact.
  • Explainers cover how leagues, formats and rules work, and are updated when the rules change.

Rumors and reports

Trade talk and free-agency rumors are attributed to the outlet that reported them. We do not present a rumor as a done deal until a team or league confirms it.

Live scores

Scores, schedules and box scores come from an established sports data provider and refresh automatically. A game is shown as final only once the league marks it final. Games are filed under their US game day in Eastern Time, and start times are converted to your device's time zone.

Corrections

If something we published is wrong, tell us. We check every report and fix confirmed errors as quickly as possible. Significant corrections to a story are noted in the article; when the data provider is at fault for a score, we report it upstream.

Independence

We are not affiliated with any league, team, broadcaster or sportsbook, and no one pays to change our coverage. Partner links, when present, are grouped in the site footer. Games are listed away team first, as is customary in American sports, and scoreboards never editorialize results.
